Hi Church!
Where and from whom did you learn about “the birds & the bees”? Was it from some friends, maybe on the playground… or maybe it was in the locker room at school… or maybe it was at some sleepover at a friend or family member’s house… or maybe you stumbled across some magazine or tv show or program. Those are just great and reliable sources to learn from, right?! Not!
Maybe you are in the rare category where a pastor, teacher, parent or other family member shared with you “the talk”. It was good and short. It gave you just enough understanding of God’s creation to erase some of your confusion. Unfortunately, some learned about “sex” from the worst imaginable way, being sexually abused. That can cause serious pain, confusion and distortion.
But isn’t it funny how we use all sorts of funny phrases and crazy explanations to talk about sex, like the “birds and the bees”. Yes, I agree that it is a very personal and private matter, but most of what is said or is not said to “explain” it only makes it more and more confusing! So where is the best source and place to be taught about sex? It is from God and the Bible. God created sex! Every part of it, and He has a lot to say about it. And it is ALL good teaching that is given for our instruction and satisfaction. Unfortunately, we often only hear about what NOT TO DO!
Have you read the Song of Solomon? It is part of the wisdom literature and it is pretty “hot and steamy” book! Do you believe me? Are you ready for a sample? Take for example this portion: “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth— for your love is more delightful than wine. How beautiful you are and how pleasing, O love, with your delights! Your stature is like that of the palm, and your breasts like clusters of fruit. I said, “I will climb the palm tree; I will take hold of its fruit.” May your breasts be like the clusters of the vine, the fragrance of your breath like apples, and your mouth like the best wine. May the wine go straight to my lover, flowing gently over lips and teeth. I belong to my lover, and his desire is for me. Song of Solomon 8:6-7 Wow! And there is a lot more like that!
As I have mentioned, this Sunday we begin a new 6 week series called: S-E-X. And I make no apologies for it. I am committed to knowing and teaching all of the Bible. They will be 6 uncensored Sermons, right from the Bible.
Every day our culture is giving us a “sex education”. There are messages and images everywhere you turn. It is time to look to the SEX-EXPERT, God for some Wisdom on this very important topic. It is going to be good. This week we start right in the very beginning: Sex In The Garden!
In His Good Grip,
Pastor Mike
