Hi Church!

Have you heard the phrase “caught with your pants down”?  I am sure you have.  Idioms online define it like this, “To be caught with your pants down means to be caught unawares in a situation to which you are completely unable to respond, react, etc. This expression means much the same as being a “deer in the headlights” except that the situation of the person caught with their pants down is highly embarrassing or potentially damaging, etc. This often involves a sexually compromising situation or something else one should not be doing. As well, it can simply mean that someone is unprepared to act and this lack of preparation is bad for their reputation, career, etc.  It is similar to the phrase being caught with your hand in the cookie jar.”

This Sunday in our series, “S-E-X”, we will be looking at a story in which a woman was caught with her pants down.   Apparently the  man got his pants up and escaped. He is never mentioned in the text.  But, as people often do, some decided to bring her to Jesus for less than honorable motives. They could care less about her and her shameful actions.   They saw it as an opportunity to possibly catch Jesus “with his pants down”.  That did not happen.

It is a story that is filled with truth for those who have fallen short of God’s standard. It is about how to respond to moral failure.  In preparation for the message, understand “everybody in the story gets caught with their pants down, except Jesus”.
