Smarter than Smart…

Hi Church!
If God offered you the opportunity to have anything you wanted, what would you ask for? What is the first thing that comes to your mind? A lot of Money? Good Health? Your own island? A position of great power? What do you want more than anything else in this world? Here is a better question, “Is there something that is better than unlimited riches, perfect health, beautiful property or supreme power?” There is.
There once was a man whom God granted the incredible opportunity to have anything he wanted. His name was Solomon. God said, name it, and I will give it to you. It is an undisputed true story. Surprisingly, he did not choose riches. He did not choose a long life. Nor did he ask to be the greatest and most powerful person alive. He asked for something that is superior to all of those things. He asked for wisdom. Wisdom?! Why wisdom? Would you have thought to ask for that?
God not only granted Solomon’s request for wisdom, but because of his humble request God granted him great riches and honor. Later Solomon would write, “wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom”. And to awaken our desire for it: He said things like this: “chase it like a young man pursues a beautiful woman”, “search for it like a hidden treasurer”, “wear it like valuable jewelry”, “listen to it like your life depends upon it” and “value it like a family fortune”.
What could make wisdom so valuable? What is “wisdom”? Why did the people of the east value it so highly and surround themselves with a group of men called “wise men”? Who has it? Where do I get it? Can I be wise? That is what we are going to be learning about over the next few weeks.
The title of our series is “Smarter than Smart”. I think you would agree that we need more than just smart phones, smart watches, smart tv’s and the like. And so it is also the reason why I have chosen our theme for 2022 to be “With Wisdom, We Take Steps of Faith”. Plan to join us for either our 9:30 or 11 am services on Sunday as we grow wiser together.
In His Gracious Grip,
Pastor Michael
